MATHEMATICAL
PHYSIOLOGY

Physics-based and computational models of human physiological systems—from flagellar flows to long-duration spaceflight health.

02 — SELECTED RESEARCH

Five systems.
One mechanistic language.

01

MICROHYDRODYNAMICS

Sperm motility from microscopy to simulation

Inferring flagellar kinematics from experimental centrelines and resolving the surrounding Stokes flow with force-coupling methods.
κ0(s,t) → rod mechanics → u(x,t)
02

SPACE PHYSIOLOGY

Cerebral haemodynamics in altered gravity

Mechanistic models connecting cephalad fluid shift, vascular resistance, autoregulation and cerebral blood-flow dynamics under acute microgravity.
3D CFD + RCR + cerebral autoregulation
03

DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS

Circadian–endocrine synchronization

Reduced-order delayed oscillator models for identifying loss of physiological synchronization and early-warning behaviour.
φ̇ = Δω − 2K sin φ(t−τ)
04

METABOLIC PHYSIOLOGY

Muscle-mediated glucose regulation

Physics-informed reduced models linking microgravity-induced muscle loss to glucose–insulin regulation and metabolic risk.
muscle mass ↔ insulin sensitivity
05

FLOW INSTABILITY

Centrifugal instability in toroidal Couette flow

A reduced-order physical framework for understanding how toroidal curvature and differential rotation localize centrifugal instability between rotating toroidal boundaries.
curvature + rotation → localized instability

03 — POSITION

I study the human body as a physical system—governed by mechanics, transport and dynamical structure.

My work sits between mechanical engineering and physiology. The common thread is not one organ or disease, but a way of asking questions: what is the simplest physically defensible model that exposes the mechanism?

The long-term aim is mathematical space physiology: engineering tools that explain, predict and eventually help manage human adaptation during long-duration missions.

04 — ACADEMIC JOURNEY

From Nagpur
to national institutes.

A path shaped by curiosity, competitive preparation and a deliberate movement toward mechanism-led research.

06 — TALKS & OUTREACH

Research awareness,
campus by campus.

My outreach goal is to improve engineering awareness among students, beginning with colleges across Maharashtra and gradually extending to institutions throughout India.

01 — THE INITIATIVE

ENGINEERING BEYOND EXAMINATIONS · FREE · ONE-HOUR · INTERACTIVE

Are You Studying Engineering—or Just Passing Exams?

Lessons I Wish I Knew When I Started Engineering

A direct conversation about developing as an engineer: building fundamentals, connecting mathematics and theory with real problems, navigating setbacks, and making informed decisions about technical careers, higher education and research.

I want engineering students—particularly those studying in regional and non-elite institutions—to see engineering as a way of understanding and solving real problems, not merely as a degree or a sequence of examinations.

Designed for students from Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics and other core engineering disciplines.

Invite Piyush for a Session

QUESTIONS EXPLORED

  • Why do engineering subjects matter beyond examinations?
  • How can students approach difficult theory, mathematics and numerical problem-solving?
  • How do engineering fundamentals connect with real applications and technical careers?
  • Do core engineering disciplines still offer meaningful opportunities?
  • How should students evaluate industry, GATE, M.Tech., MS, PhD and research?
  • How can students recover when GATE or an IIT/NIT admission does not work out initially?
